What Is Search Engine Optimization?

September 13th, 2011

This three minute video from Search Engine Land is a short, easy to understand overview of search engine optimization and how it works. I also think it easily explains “why” you need search engine optimization.

So much to do, so little time…

May 11th, 2011

With this new amount of free time on my hands these days, I find myself wondering where do I start? I am trying to reinvent myself which, I have to admit at my age, is a pretty scary prospect. On the other hand, it’s exciting because I have a bucket list of things that I have wanted to do for years but have never had the time. The push and pull of it though is pretty exhausting… I need to be realistic but there is that part of me that wants to try all those new things I’ve been wanting to do forever! One of the things on the list is creating an iPhone app. I am in the planning stages of it and hope to make it a reality. Granted, it would be easier and quicker to find a qualified app developer to work with but I don’t have the money or the resources at this point. So, I have bought the books and will include “learning new programming languages” to my to-do list.

I am looking forward to getting back to my roots, back to the basics. I haven’t needlepointed in probably 3 years and have missed it terribly. It has always helped to relieve my stress and lord knows I have enough of a stash to open my own shop! I also am looking forward to getting back to gardening. I need to get my hands dirty, I love to dig in the dirt! Also reading.. I don’t think I have read a novel in 3 years either.. I love reading and can’t believe that I have gotten away from it.

Most importantly, I am determined to get on a regular schedule with my blogging. It’s something that has been far neglected and needs to be rectified immediately.

Life is too short to not do the things you enjoy!!

Samson 9/3/96 – 8/25/10

October 15th, 2010

Our sweet Samson went to the Rainbow Bridge on August 25, 2010, 9 days before his 14th birthday. We took Sam in when my friend Elaine passed away 7 years ago. We didn’t know what we were getting ourselves into, we had always been cat people. What did we know about dogs?! Well, we learned alot and we learned quick! :) We learned that dogs give you an unconditional love that I don’t think anybody else is able to give.

In the past few years, Sam had developed Cushings Disease which we were treating with medication but late last year developed lesions on his brain. We treated that with medication and then chemo, to try and stop the growth of the lesions. It worked for awhile but in late August he started going downhill very quickly. He couldn’t walk or stand on his own and it became clear that we had to let him go. The chemo wasn’t working any more to stop the growth of the brain disease. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do in my life and it’s been hard adjusting to life without him.

I made this collage for Larry for his birthday in September. I wanted happy Sam pics, because in life he was such a happy dog. It’s as if he always had a smile on his face.

I also made a compilation video as a tribute to my boy.

He was the best dog ever and he is missed! Read the rest of this entry »

Typophile Film Festival Opening Titles

September 25th, 2009

“Handcrafted with love by BYU design students and faculty, for the 5th Typophile Film Festival. A visual typographic feast about the five senses, and how they contribute to and enhance our creativity. Everything in the film is real—no CG effects!

Shot with a RED One, a Canon EOS 5D Mark II, a Canon EOS 40D, and a Nikon D80.
Stop motion created with Dragon Stop Motion.”

Hard to believe that this is just the promo or “opening titles” for this Film Festival! I can’t imagine the films that would surpass this video!

Truly inspiring. Fascinating. Excellent!

Twitter Grader is a free tool that allows you to check the power of your twitter profile. It looks at a variety of factors including the number of followers, power of those followers and the level to which you are engaging the community. It takes just a few seconds to generate your free report.

TwitterKeys is a small tool developed at The Next Web Blog which provides you with a floating window with all those funny symbols you can use in Twitter. i ♥ that! ☺

Christmas Wine – Mitolo G.A.M. Shiraz 2006

January 2nd, 2009

Mitolo 2006 McLaren Vale Shiraz

Mitolo G.A.M. 2006 McLaren Vale Shiraz

Larry bought me 4 bottles of wine for Christmas. We decided to open this little beauty for Christmas dinner and I am so glad we did. Sometimes when you think you want to splurge on a bottle of wine, this is one that you should definitely splurge on! When Larry brought this home, I immediately went and looked it up on Wine Library TV to see if Gary V. had done a review and sure enough, he had. Not only did he give it a good review, he went on and on and on and on…well, you get the idea. :)

The Wine Spectator gives this wine a 95 while Gary rates it a 93. The wine has explosive complex over-the-top rich flavors and worth every penny imo.
